WBC, WBA, and IBF world welterweight champion Cory Spinks had big plans for his homecoming bout and rematch with Zab Judah, who had the champion on the floor in the 12th round of their first meeting ten months earlier. The pair met at the Savvis Center in Saint Louis, the Missouri city where the fighting Spinks clan hail from.
Spinks made a fine start to the bout but got caught and hurt near the end of the 9th round. Judah sensed his opportunity after Spinks got up from the second of two knockdowns and referee Armando Garcia stepped in to save Spinks at 2:49 of the round.
The win made Judah a two-weight world champion having held the IBF and WBO titles at super-lightweight.
