Why the House picks Eduardo Nunez
Three-weight world champion Emanuel Navarrete faces his IBF super featherweight counterpart, Eduardo ’Sugar’ Nunez, in what for me could be a fight of the year candidate. Navarette’s experience at world level should give him an advantage when the going gets tough, but his last outing against Filipino challenger Charly Suarez left more questions than answers. Is Navarrete on the slide? Is it the right time, right place scenario for Nunez to take the throne? What I do know is that Navarrete won’t go quietly if at all.
Nunez only has a surprise loss in his 11th career bout to Hiram Gallardo over 6 rounds (All 3 judges scored: 56-57); otherwise, he has looked sensational, collecting 27 stoppages in 29 bouts. It’s worth mentioning that Nunez has had to go the full 12 rounds in his last two outings, and both of those bouts were world title fights, firstly, in Japan, his title-winning effort against Masanori Rikiishi and his first and only defence thus far against Christopher Diaz-Velez. Navarette may be struggling the bigger his opposition, remember his only important loss was to Denys Berinchyk when he attempted to win a fourth division title(WBO Lightweight). As stated earlier, this is a 50/50 fight, but I’m going with the big punching Nunez to win on points.
