Why the House picks Radivoje Kalajdzic
This is a dangerous piece of matchmaking in my opinion. Richards has always possessed the ability, but he has never been busy enough, either from fight to fight or during the rounds themselves. At this stage of his career, backing him to maintain the concentration and output required against a strong, dangerous opponent is a big ask.
Kalajdzic is not especially difficult to understand, but understanding what is coming and stopping it are two different matters. He is taller, physically strong and carries power in his right hand. His stoppage of Oleksandr Gvozdyk also suggests he is arriving with more momentum and ambition than Richards.
Richards may begin well behind the jab and make Kalajdzic look fairly ordinary for several rounds. The trouble will come when his work rate drops and he starts giving away the centre of the ring. Kalajdzic will keep stepping forward, forcing exchanges and making Richards work when he would rather control the pace.
I can see Richards having early success, but I don't trust him to stay active enough for ten hard rounds. Kalajdzic will be too strong, too busy and ultimately too powerful.
My prediction is Kalajdzic on points.
