Xavier Martinez took his unbeaten record to 17-0 with 11 Ko's but had to fight hard to win a unanimous decision over 33-year-old, former three-time world title contender Juan Carlos Burgos at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California. 

In a thoroughly entertaining bout, Martinez was forced to fight at a high work rate throughout to win by a unanimous decision. The judges had it a bit wider than the majority of the viewing audience, but the right man won.
