Vergil Ortiz Jr drops Maurice Hooker twice en route to 7th round Tko

In an all-Dallas, Texas showdown, Vergil Ortiz Jr floored Maurice Hooker in the 6th and 7th rounds to force referee Laurence Cole to end matters at 0:36 of the 7th round. With the win comes the vacant WBO International Welterweight Title, but more importantly, it puts Ortiz Jr in the top bracket of the world's 147lb contenders.

Hooker showed he still has a part to play in the division. Competetive until the end, the former WBO World Super-lightweight titlist was beaten by the best young contender in the division but gave him his biggest test to date.
