Title: William Zepeda Dominates Maxi Hughes, Earns Mandatory Lightweight Title Shot

Mexican lightweight sensation William Zepeda (30-0, 26 KOs) showcased his relentless pressure and high output, forcing Maxi Hughes' corner to abandon the fight after four increasingly one-sided rounds at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas.

With this victory in the so-called "final eliminator," Zepeda becomes the mandatory challenger for two lightweight belts – one held by Gervonta "Tank" Davis and the other to be contested by Vasyl Lomachenko and George Kambosos on May 11.

The 27-year-old Zepeda and his promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, wasted no time calling out Davis, Lomachenko, and Shakur Stevenson in the post-fight interview. "I am ready for Shakur, Gervonta. We're going after whoever is on that list," Zepeda declared.

Hughes (26-7-2, 5 KOs), a skilled contender, started well in the opening round, jabbing and circling with class. However, Zepeda's relentless pressure and bodywork quickly took their toll. By the middle of the second round, Hughes was starting to lose his technique, and by the third, he was in survival mode.

According to CompuBox, Zepeda landed an impressive 161 of 408 punches, averaging 102 thrown and 40 landed per round. Despite connecting with 53 of 221 punches, Hughes had no defensive answers for Zepeda's onslaught. The Englishman's pre-fight visa issues and travel nightmares, which delayed his arrival in Las Vegas by a week, certainly didn't help his cause.

Zepeda's dominant performance against Hughes compares favourably to George Kambosos' majority decision win over the Englishman last July. With this victory, Zepeda has undoubtedly earned an opportunity to test himself against one of the lightweight division's elite fighters.

As the boxing world eagerly awaits Zepeda's next move, it's clear that the all-action rising star is ready to make his mark on the 135-pound division.
