Tiara Brown Upsets Skye Nicolson to Claim World Title

In a stunning turn of events at Sydney's Qudos Bank Arena, Tiara Brown dethroned Skye Nicolson via split decision to capture the WBC featherweight title. The judges scored the bout 97-93 and 96-94 in favour of Brown, with one judge awarding Nicolson a 96-94 tally.

From the opening bell, Brown, now boasting a 19-0 record with 11 knockouts, showcased relentless aggression, pressing forward to disrupt Nicolson's rhythm. The Australian southpaw, who suffered her first professional loss dropping to 12-1, struggled to maintain distance, often finding herself entangled in clinches as Brown closed the gap effectively.

Throughout the middle rounds, Brown's body shots and inside fighting began to wear down Nicolson. Brown's persistent pressure and effective ring generalship largely neutralised the champion's attempts to counter from the outside.

Nicolson endeavoured to regain control in the championship rounds, landing several clean left hands. However, Brown's resilience and unwavering forward march kept the momentum in her favour. The final rounds saw both fighters exchanging fiercely, but Brown's consistent aggression left a lasting impression on the judges.

Promoter Eddie Hearn expressed surprise at the Australian judge's 97-93 scorecard favouring Brown, acknowledging the bout's competitiveness but hinting at a potential rematch.

Post-fight, an elated Brown attributed her victory to composure and relentless pressure, fulfilling her long-held dream of becoming a world champion. She humorously remarked on her immediate plans to indulge in cupcakes and ice cream, savouring the culmination of over two decades of dedication to the sport.
