Shabaz Masoud Outclasses Liam Davies in Super-Bantam Clash

Shabaz Masoud secured a split decision victory over highly-touted Liam Davies at Birmingham's Resorts World Arena, outboxing his former amateur rival with superior technique and tactical awareness across twelve rounds. The judges scored 116-112, 115-113 for Masoud, and 113-115 for Davies.

Entering as an underdog despite two amateur wins over Davies, Masoud established control immediately with precise jabbing and counterpunching. His ability to control distance negated Davies' forward pressure, opening a cut by Davies' right eye in round four and consistently punishing his opponent's aggressive advances.

Davies revealed his uncertainty before round nine, asking his cornermen if he was "getting back into it." 

Though Davies found late success as Masoud tired in the championship rounds, landing meaningful right hands, his swollen left cheek and worsening cut evidenced Masoud's dominance.

The split decision appeared generous to Davies, whose one-dimensional pressure proved insufficient against Masoud's refined skillset. The victory disrupts Davies' trajectory toward a potential Naoya Inoue showdown while establishing Masoud as a legitimate super-bantamweight contender.
