Sheffield’s Park Community Arena carried a tense energy as Ben Crocker stepped in to defend his IBF European super-lightweight crown against the experienced southpaw Sean McComb. Crocker entered unbeaten, with a record of 14-0-1, including 2 knockouts, while McComb had 19 wins against 2 defeats, with 5 stoppages. For Crocker, this was only his second defence of the belt, a title he had claimed in December 2024 before being held to a draw in his first defence earlier in 2025. McComb had long been considered one of the more skilled technicians in the domestic division, though setbacks had slowed his rise. Both men knew the significance of the contest: for Crocker, validation of his title reign; for McComb, an opportunity to reestablish himself on the European stage.

The opening round appeared to tilt heavily in Crocker’s favour. Midway through the session, he connected with a crisp left hook that caught McComb clean and dropped him to the canvas. McComb rose quickly, but it was a reminder of Crocker’s timing and counter-punching ability. For the next two rounds, Crocker pressed his edge, looking to impose himself with sharp counters and timed hooks, but McComb did not unravel. He steadied himself behind a southpaw jab, probing for distance and avoiding unnecessary exchanges. By the third and fourth rounds, McComb had established a steadier rhythm, working long and beginning to dictate the terms of engagement.

From rounds five through seven, the contest’s pattern shifted. McComb’s jab grew more consistent, and he added combinations off it to keep Crocker cautious. His movement and distance control prevented Crocker from landing with the same authority that had produced the early knockdown. Crocker remained dangerous, and in the seventh he managed to buzz McComb with a right hand that briefly stiffened his legs, but the Irishman’s composure allowed him to recover quickly. The experience gap began to show: McComb used small angles and well-timed steps out of range to blunt Crocker’s attacks, and he increasingly got his punches off first, forcing Crocker into the role of chasing the action.

The ninth round highlighted the contrast in approaches. Crocker searched for single, eye-catching counters while McComb pumped out his jab and kept the exchanges on his terms. Each time Crocker looked to close the distance with a power shot, McComb either tied him up or pivoted away, resetting behind the right jab. It was not always thrilling, but it was effective, allowing McComb to rack up points in rounds that were otherwise close. In the tenth and final round, Crocker pressed forward with urgency, knowing he needed a big finish. Still, McComb smothered his attacks, clinched at key moments, and avoided being drawn into a last-ditch firefight.

After ten tactical rounds, the scorecards were announced unanimously at 96–93 for McComb, awarding him the IBF European super-lightweight title. Statistically, Crocker had the highlight moment with his first-round knockdown. Still, across the majority of rounds, McComb was busier, landed more consistently, and carried the fight with his ring generalship. The result marked the first professional defeat of Crocker’s career, dropping him to 14-1-1 with 2 knockouts. McComb, now 20-2 with 5 knockouts, picked up one of the most important victories of his career and a belt that may open doors to bigger opportunities in the division.

For Crocker, this loss will be a disappointment but also a valuable lesson at this stage of his career. He showed he could hurt McComb early, but his lower output and reliance on single punches cost him across the middle and later rounds. McComb, by contrast, demonstrated the value of resilience and adjustment. Rising from the first-round knockdown, he never panicked, stuck to his game plan, and slowly took control of the contest. The Sheffield crowd, initially roaring when Crocker floored McComb, grew quieter as the visitor’s steady work turned the tide. In the end, it was McComb’s discipline and consistency that carried the night, adding a fresh chapter to his career and reminding the division of his quality.
