Michael Conlan Triumphs Over Asad Asif Khan in Comeback Bout

Michael Conlan marked his return to the ring at the Brighton Centre with a unanimous victory over India's Asad Asif Khan. The bout, scheduled for eight rounds, saw Conlan emerge victorious with a score of 78-74, as adjudicated by referee Bob Williams.

Conlan, 33, entered the fight after a 15-month hiatus following consecutive stoppage defeats. From the onset, he demonstrated intent, employing a southpaw stance and frequently switching to orthodox to disrupt Khan's rhythm. The early rounds showcased Conlan's aggression, with powerful left hooks targeting both the head and body. Khan, however, remained resilient, absorbing the onslaught and occasionally countering with uppercuts and hooks.

As the fight progressed, Conlan's dominance became evident. He unleashed a series of combinations in the fifth round, though Khan's sturdy defence prevented any significant breakthroughs. The later rounds saw Conlan maintain control, effectively use his jab, and showcase improved footwork. Khan's sporadic offensives were met with precise counters, ensuring Conlan's lead on the scorecards remained unchallenged.

This victory improves Conlan's professional record to 19 wins, 3 losses, and 9 knockouts. Post-fight, it was announced that he would challenge Spain's European featherweight champion, Cristobal Lorente, signalling his intent to reclaim a prominent position in the featherweight division.
