Colombia's Juan Carrillo preserved his unblemished professional record with a decisive unanimous victory over former title challenger Gilbert Lenin Castillo. The 10-round light heavyweight bout showcased Carrillo's superior ring generalship, with scorecards reading 100-90, 99-91, and 98-92 in favour of the Colombian pugilist.

The contest began with a cautious first round, as both fighters, known for their knockout power, approached each other with respect for their opponent's firepower. However, Carrillo, the 32-year-old from Barranquilla, found his rhythm in the second round. He connected with a sharp overhand left followed by a right to the body, setting the tone for his dominance throughout the fight.

As the bout progressed, a clear pattern emerged. Carrillo, now 13-0 with 9 knockouts, consistently outworked his 36-year-old opponent from Miami. The Colombian fighter's jab became a key weapon, establishing distance and setting up his power shots. Carrillo repeatedly punctuated rounds with solid left hands, demonstrating his ability to finish strong.

Castillo, whose record now stands at 25-6-1 with 19 knockouts, showed his durability throughout the fight. Despite absorbing Carrillo's best shots, including numerous strong left hands, Castillo remained upright and competitive. His occasional body attacks and counter-rights kept Carrillo honest but were not enough to turn the tide of the fight.

Carrillo took more risks in the middle rounds and increased his output, while Castillo struggled to match the Colombian's work rate. In the seventh round, Carrillo pinned Castillo against the ropes, showcasing his ability to control the ring. A brief pause due to a low blow from Castillo energized both fighters, leading to an exchange of body shots that tested their resolve.

An accidental clash of heads in the eighth round momentarily halted the action, but Carrillo quickly regained control, closing the round strongly. The ninth round saw another low blow, this time from Carrillo, but he used the break to his advantage, pouncing on Castillo when the fight resumed.
Throughout the contest, the crowd's restlessness was evident, with mild boos punctuating the tactical nature of the fight. However, the lack of drama in no way diminished Carrillo's commanding performance.

This victory marks Carrillo's second fight of 2024, following his impressive third-round knockout of Quinton Rankin in March. With this win, Carrillo solidifies his position in the light heavyweight rankings, currently placed at No. 14 by the IBF and No. 15 by both the WBA and WBO.

While Castillo's loss is a setback, his ability to go the distance with a rising contender like Carrillo speaks to his experience and toughness. As for Carrillo, this dominant performance against a former title challenger should put the light heavyweight division on notice, potentially setting the stage for more high-profile bouts shortly.
