Giovani Santillan wins by unanimous decision against Cecil McCalla

San Diego welterweight prospect Giovani Santillan outworked and out-landed Cecil McCalla in their 8 round preliminary to the Vasyl Lomachenko vs Masayoshi Nakatani lightweight contest at The Theatre at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas, brought to you by Top Rank and shown on ESPN.

Santillan hooked up with Californian trainer Robert Garcia after his last outing, a controversial 10 round majority decision over former WBC lightweight champion Antonio DeMarco in June 2020. The move produced a better-conditioned fighter and one that seems more accurate with his punches as Santillan landed 41% according to CompuBox.

Hopefully, there is more to come from the 29-year-old southpaw from San Diego because he is rising up the rankings in a talent-laden division.
