Gabriela Fundora successfully defended her undisputed flyweight titles with a dominant seventh-round stoppage over Marilyn Badillo at the Frontwave Arena in Oceanside, California. The 23-year-old southpaw improved her record to 16-0 (8 KOs), while Badillo suffered her first professional defeat, falling to 19-1-1 (3 KOs).
Fundora utilized her six-inch height, and four-inch reach advantages from the opening bell to control the distance, landing sharp jabs and straight lefts that kept Badillo at bay. Badillo attempted to close the gap with feints and aggressive movement but struggled to penetrate Fundora's defence.
In the fourth round, an unintentional headbutt caused a significant hematoma on Badillo's forehead, further hampering her performance. Fundora capitalized on this, increasing her punch output and accuracy. By the sixth round, she had landed 99 of 217 power punches (46%), compared to Badillo's 21 of 97 (22%).
The seventh round saw Fundora unleash a relentless assault, culminating in a straight left that sent Badillo to her knee for the first time in her career. Referee Rudy Barragan stopped the fight at 1:44, as Badillo's corner signalled their fighter had had enough.
Fundora expressed satisfaction with her performance post-fight, stating, "I knew the stoppage was going to come—it was just about how I wanted to set it up." She hinted at potential bouts in different weight classes, aiming to collect more belts.
This victory marks Fundora's first defence of her undisputed titles and solidifies her status as a dominant force in women's boxing. Her combination of size, skill, and power continues to pose significant challenges for opponents across divisions.?
