Unbeaten WBA world super-middleweight champion David Morrell made short work of Mexico's Mario Abel Cazares at The Armory in Minneapolis, Minnesota on a PBC on Fox televised card.
Morrell, originally from Santa Clara, Cuba but now living and fighting out of Minneapolis, Minnesota produced a clinical finish to the fight. A pair of big left hands while Cazares was backed up on the ropes dropped the 30-year-old from Culiacan, forcing referee Mark Nelson to wave the fight off immediately. The time was 2:32 of the round.
Although young and inexperienced (Morrell moves to 5-0), his management will need to match him against some bigger names soon. Cazares, while unbeaten coming into this fight, was given this shot after scoring a technical decision win against faded Julio Cesar Chavez in September 2020.
Morrell looks capable of tackling the worlds top super-middleweights so it would be good to see him in with the likes of David Benavidez, Daniel Jacobs, or perhaps someone like Billy Joe Saunders.
Food for thought.
