Fight Report
Dalton Smith extended his unbeaten record to 18-0 (13 KOs) with a dominant unanimous decision victory over Canada's Mathieu Germain at Sheffield's Park Community Arena. The bout, contested for Smith's WBC Silver super lightweight title, saw the home fighter drop Germain three times en route to scores of 119-105 (twice) and 117-107.
Smith asserted his dominance from the opening bell, utilizing superior hand speed and ring generalship to control the pace. In the second round, a well-timed left hook sent Germain to the canvas, signalling the beginning of a long night for the Canadian.

Germain, 35, displayed resilience, employing lateral movement and clinches to disrupt Smith's rhythm. However, Smith's persistent body attacks and combinations wore down the veteran. In the eleventh round, Smith scored another knockdown, though it appeared to result from a shot to the back, raising questions about its legitimacy.
In the final round, Smith pressed for a stoppage, culminating in a third knockdown with 30 seconds remaining. However, an earlier low blow led to a point deduction for Smith, slightly marring an otherwise dominant performance.
With this victory, Smith retains his WBC Silver title and solidifies his position as the mandatory challenger for Alberto Puello's WBC super lightweight championship. Promoter Eddie Hearn emphasized that Smith's next bout should be for a world title, stating, "There's nothing that's going to get in the way of him fighting for the world title; it's just when."
Germain's record now stands at 26-3-1 (11 KOs), ending his eight-fight winning streak. Despite the loss, his durability and experience were evident as he managed to go the distance against a formidable opponent.?
Smith's performance, while dominant, also highlighted areas for growth as he prepares to face elite competition. His ability to adapt and maintain composure throughout the fight suggests readiness for the challenges ahead at the world championship level.
