Conah Walker produced a dominant display at the BP Pulse Live Arena in Birmingham, defending his British welterweight title and stopping veteran Liam Taylor in the seventh round. Walker, 30, entered with a resourceful, pressure-heavy orthodox style and a record of 15-3-1, while Taylor, 34, came in as an experienced former title challenger at 28-2-1. Under his new training team of Jamie Moore and Nigel Travis, Walker started composed yet assertive from the opening bell.
The first two rounds saw Walker testing Taylor's defences with probing jabs and mid-range body shots. Taylor responded by landing crisp counters, particularly an uppercut in round one that caught Walker's attention. But from the third onward, Walker's forward momentum began to pay dividends. He landed a solid left and right hook body combo near the bell in round three that visibly rocked Taylor and lifted the home support with renewed confidence in the champion.
Rounds four and five saw Taylor rally with flashes of accuracy, catching Walker with clean, straight shots. Yet Walker's determination only intensified; his pressure never wavered, and by round six, Taylor was visibly wearing the effects of Walker's earlier work to both head and body. Corner instructions from Moore to up the tempo set the stage for a decisive finish.
Walker's power and timing became fully evident in the seventh round. With Taylor pinned against the ropes, Walker connected flush with a thunderous left hook that sent blood across the canvas and forced Taylor onto all-fours, where he was counted out at 0:45 . Walker's left hook emphatically ended the bout, earning the KO victory and cementing his seventh career stoppage in his 16 wins.
CompuBox data highlights the effectiveness of Walker's sustained pressure: he landed 192 of 513 total punches (37%), while Taylor, although busier, connected on 225 of 655 (34%). Walker's output was less frequent but more telling with quality over quantity, culminating in the defining hook. The stats show that Walker chose his moments wisely, gradually softening Taylor before delivering the fight-ending blow.
Looking ahead, Walker improves to 16-3-1 (7 KOs). As a British and Commonwealth titleholder, he successfully defended his British crown in his first defence. Post-fight, Walker called out for bigger opportunities, including high-profile bouts in Saudi Arabia and potential world-level opponents. With a KO streak of 4 in his last 6 and 7 KOs in 16 wins, Walker is clearly positioning himself for global contention.
