Andrew Cain defended his British and Commonwealth bantamweight titles against Charlie Edwards at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool in a bout that dissatisfied the audience. The fight concluded with a split decision, with judges scoring the contest 115-114 and 116-112 in favour of Cain, while one judge saw it 115-113 for Edwards.

Cain adopted an aggressive approach from the opening bell, pressing forward to engage Edwards. Edwards, however, employed a defensive strategy, utilizing constant movement to evade exchanges. This tactic led to minimal action in the initial rounds, with Cain landing a sharp right that caused a cut on Edwards' head late in the first round.

As the fight progressed, Cain's frustration grew due to Edwards' reluctance to engage. The crowd's displeasure became evident, with boos resonating throughout the arena by the fifth round. Despite Cain's attempts to corner Edwards and land significant punches, Edwards remained elusive, focusing on defence over offence. This pattern persisted into the later rounds, with Cain occasionally landing glancing blows while Edwards offered little in return.

In the championship rounds, Edwards had brief moments of success, notably landing a sharp right hand in the tenth round. However, his lack of offensive output did little to sway the judges in his favour. The final round mirrored the earlier ones, with Edwards continuing his evasive tactics, leading to a chorus of boos from the audience. At the bout's conclusion, Cain's ascent to the corner ropes was met with cheers, contrasting sharply with the crowd's reaction to Edwards.

With this victory, Cain improved his record to 14 wins, including 12 knockouts and one loss. Edwards' record now stands at 20 wins and two losses.
