Vincenzo Nardiello Biography
Vincenzo Nardiello, born on June 11, 1966, in Stuttgart, Germany, to Italian parents, carved out a notable career in the super middleweight division. Despite being born in Germany, Nardiello's roots and residence were firmly planted in Italy, specifically in Casalpalocco, Lazio. His amateur career was marked by winning the Italian National Championships and securing a silver medal at the European Junior Championships in Tampere, Finland, in the 63.5 kg category. This early success laid the groundwork for his debut on December 22, 1988, in Milan, where he defeated Philip Houthoofdt on points over six rounds.
Nardiello's professional career spanned over a decade, concluding on May 29, 1999, with a points win in Bari, Itay against Glenn Odem. Vincenzo faced some of the best in the super middleweight division. One of his most notable bouts was against Nigel Benn for the WBC World Super Middleweight Title on July 22, 1995, at the London Arena. Although Benn was favoured, Nardiello's challenge was formidable, reflecting his ability to compete at the highest level. Another significant bout was against Thulani Malinga, where Nardiello managed to capture the title by defeating the South African boxer. However, his reign was short-lived as he lost the title to Robin Reid, only to see Malinga regain it later.
Throughout his career, Nardiello demonstrated a strong chin, which allowed him to compete against top-tier fighters. Despite being stopped three times, he accumulated a respectable record of 41 fights, with 34 wins and 7 losses, 19 of those wins by knockout. His ability to win a world title in the super middleweight division at that time remains impressive. Though not as widely recognized as some of his contemporaries, his legacy remains significant for Italian boxing fans.
