Victor "Luvi" Callejas, born November 12, 1960, in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, is a former professional boxer who competed in the super bantamweight division. He stands 5 feet 6 inches tall and fought out of an orthodox stance. Throughout his career, he emerged as a prominent figure in boxing, particularly in the 1980s when he captured the WBA World Super Bantamweight title.
Callejas made his professional debut on February 18, 1979, against Jose Parrilla at the Hiram Bithorn Stadium in San Juan. Despite losing this four-round bout by points, he went on to reach the pinnacle of the super bantamweight division.
The highlight of Callejas's career came on May 26, 1984, when he travelled to Rimini, Italy, to challenge Loris Stecca for the WBA World Super Bantamweight title. In a dramatic and intense fight, Callejas secured a victory by technical knockout in the eighth round, claiming the world title.
Callejas successfully defended his title against South Korea's Seung Hoon Lee on February 2, 1985, at the Coliseo Roberto Clemente in San Juan. After 15 rounds, he won by unanimous decision.
Callejas also rematched Loris Stecca in November 1985 in his hometown, Guaynabo, where he defeated Stecca by a 6th-round technical knockout.
On March 7, 1988, he faced Jeff Fenech in Sydney for the vacant WBC World Featherweight title. In this challenging match, Callejas was stopped by a technical knockout in the tenth round of a competitive match.
Callejas retired from professional boxing on September 6, 1990, following a split decision loss to Francisco Alvarez in San Juan. This final bout concluded his career with a professional record of 27 wins (22 Ko's) and 3 losses.
