Lorenzo Zanon, born on September 10, 1951, in Novedrate, Lombardia, Italy, emerged as a notable figure in the heavyweight boxing scene during the 1970s and early 1980s. Standing at 6 feet 2 inches and fighting with an orthodox stance, Zanon began his professional career on July 26, 1973, securing a points victory over Ermanno Festorazzi in Monza.

Prior to turning professional, Zanon had a commendable amateur career, highlighted by a silver medal at the 1972 Italian National Championships, where he was narrowly defeated by Amedeo Laureti in the finals.

Throughout his career, Zanon faced several world-class opponents. On September 14, 1977, he fought Ken Norton in Las Vegas but suffered a knockout loss in the fifth round. Later that year, on November 5, he faced Jerry Quarry, also in Las Vegas, where, despite leading on the scorecards, he was stopped in the ninth round.

A significant achievement in Zanon's career was winning the European Heavyweight Title. On April 18, 1979, he secured a split decision victory over Alfredo Evangelista in Torino. He successfully defended this title against opponents like Alfio Righetti and Felipe Rodriguez.

Zanon's pursuit of global recognition led him to challenge Larry Holmes for the WBC World Heavyweight Title on February 3, 1980, at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. Despite a valiant effort, he was knocked out in the sixth round.

Continuing his career in Europe, Zanon defended his European title but faced a setback on November 28, 1980, when he was defeated by John L. Gardner in Campione d'Italia, losing by knockout in the fifth round.

Zanon's final professional bout took place on December 29, 1981, against Rinaldo Pelizzari in Seregno, which ended in a draw after eight rounds. He retired with a professional record of 27 wins, 6 losses, and 3 draws, including 9 wins by knockout.

Throughout his career, Zanon was known for his technical skills and movement in the ring, often giving formidable opponents challenging bouts, even when facing physical disadvantages.
