Hannah Rankin, nicknamed “The Classical Warrior,” is a Scottish professional boxer who has competed primarily in the super-welterweight division since her debut on May 20, 2017. Born in Luss, Scotland, and based in Glasgow, Rankin stands 5 feet 9 inches tall and fights with an orthodox stance. Her career to date spans over eight years and includes 21 professional contests, establishing her as one of the most prominent female boxers from Scotland and the United Kingdom. Rankin’s professional career began at the Skylark Hotel in Southend-on-Sea, where she outpointed Ester Konecna over six rounds. Demonstrating both technical skill and durable conditioning, Rankin steadily built her record against a series of domestic and international opponents. Early victories, such as those over Borislava Goranova, Klaudia Vigh, and Sanna Turunen, helped her develop a reputation for disciplined boxing and a high-volume approach. Her first professional setback came in her sixth bout against Joanna Ekedahl in Oslo, Norway, after which she promptly returned to winning ways with consistent results at venues like York Hall and Lagoon Leisure Centre.
Rankin’s career highlights include winning the WBA and IBO super-welterweight world titles on November 5, 2021, when she defeated Maria Lindberg by unanimous decision at Tottenham Hotspur FC Banqueting Hall. This historic title victory established Rankin as Scotland’s first female world boxing champion. She successfully defended her world title against Alejandra Ayala with a tenth-round technical knockout at The SSE Hydro in Glasgow. However, she lost the belts following a unanimous decision defeat to Terri Harper at the Nottingham Arena in September 2022.
Throughout her career, Rankin has consistently faced high-calibre opposition, including world champions and contenders such as Claressa Shields, Alicia Napoleon Espinosa, Savannah Marshall, Ema Kozin, Patricia Berghult, and Naomi Mannes. Notable wins include points or decision victories over Logan Holler, Sarah French, Eva Bajic, and Erin Toughill. Rankin has shown resilience and the ability to adapt, even in defeat, with most losses coming by decision against elite-level fighters, including recent split decision defeats against Mannes and Kozin.
Rankin is recognised for her boxing-heavy style, relying on high punch volume, effective jabs, range control, and durable defence. While she possesses power, most of her victories have come by outworking her opponents and maintaining tactical discipline over the distance, with three wins by knockout out of her thirteen career victories. Her ringcraft and conditioning allow her to remain competitive in long bouts, maintaining steady output and resilience even under pressure. This approach and professional demeanour have made her a respected fixture in top-level female boxing in the UK and Europe.
