Daniel Geale's boxing career, spanning from 2004 to 2016, is a tale of resilience, triumph, and battles against some of the sport's most formidable opponents. Born on February 26, 1981, in Launceston, Tasmania, Geale emerged from a mixed British and Aboriginal heritage to become a prominent figure in the middleweight division. His journey began in the amateur ranks, highlighted by a gold medal at the 2002 Commonwealth Games and participation in the 2000 Summer Olympics, where he faced a first-round exit against Italy's Leonard Bundu.

Turning professional in 2004, Geale made an immediate impact by knocking out Danny Bellert in the third round. His rise was swift, building a record of 17 wins, with 12 by knockout. On December 14, 2007, Geale captured the IBO Middleweight Championship by outclassing the undefeated Daniel Dawson over 12 rounds, with judges scoring the bout overwhelmingly in his favour.

Geale's career continued to ascend as he defended his IBO title against Geard Ajetovic in June 2008, winning by unanimous decision. A non-title bout against Daniel MacKinnon in December 2008 showcased Geale's tenacity; despite being knocked down in the eighth round, he secured a unanimous decision victory. In March 2009, Geale defeated Ian MacKillop with a first-round knockout. Still, his momentum was halted in May by a controversial split decision loss to Anthony Mundine, costing him the IBO title.

Bouncing back from this setback, Geale notched three consecutive victories, earning an IBF eliminator and a shot at the world title. In May 2011, he travelled to Germany to face Sebastian Sylvester, winning a split decision to become the IBF middleweight world champion. Geale successfully defended his title twice, against Eromosele Albert and Osumanu Adama, both by unanimous decision.

Geale's career peaked on September 1, 2012, when he defeated long-time WBA champion Felix Sturm in Germany, unifying the IBF and WBA titles. However, his reign as a unified champion was short-lived. Choosing a rematch with Anthony Mundine over a mandatory defence against Gennady Golovkin led to the WBA stripping him of the title.

The rematch against Mundine took place on January 30, 2013, at the Sydney Entertainment Centre. Geale won convincingly by unanimous decision, retaining his IBF middleweight title. This victory, however, marked the beginning of a challenging period in Geale's career.

On August 17, 2013, Geale faced Darren Barker in Atlantic City for the IBF title. Despite knocking Barker down in the sixth round, Geale lost by split decision. His next significant bout was against the formidable Gennady Golovkin at Madison Square Garden on July 26, 2014. Geale was outclassed and lost by TKO in the third round, a fight that underscored Golovkin's dominance in the division.

Continuing to seek high-profile fights, Geale faced Miguel Cotto on June 6, 2015, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn for the WBC World Middleweight title. Cotto's power proved too much, and Geale succumbed to a fourth-round TKO.

Geale's final professional bout occurred on October 14, 2016, against Renold Quinlan at the Silverdome Basketball Stadium in Launceston. Geale was knocked out in the second round, which was a disappointing end to his career.
