On June 5, 1999, Roy Jones Jr faced Reggie Johnson at the Grand Casino in Biloxi, Mississippi, in a fight to crown the first undisputed light heavyweight champion since Michael Spinks in 1985. With the WBC, WBA, and IBF titles on the line, both men had high stakes. Holding the WBC and WBA belts, Jones entered the ring with a 39-1 record and the reputation as the most dominant fighter in the division. Johnson, the IBF champion with a record of 39-5-1, brought experience and skill to the contest but found himself an underdog against the supremely gifted Jones.

With this win, Jones became the first fighter to unify the light heavyweight division since Michael Spinks vacated the title 14 years earlier to move up to heavyweight. The performance reinforced Jones' status as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the sport, adding another milestone to his already legendary career.
