Michael Moorer vs Victor Claudio

Michael Moorer made the first successful defence of his WBO Light Heavyweight Title with a technical knockout victory over Puerto Rican Victor Claudio in just 25 seconds into the second round. 

The bout occurred on January 14, 1989, at The Palace in Auburn Hills, Michigan, showcasing Moorer's dominant presence in the light heavyweight division. The match was officiated by referee Sam Williams, with judges Eugene Acey, Herb Ellison, and Rich Fisher scoring the fight.

Moorer, weighing 175 pounds, demonstrated his vaunted power against Claudio, who entered the ring at 173.25 pounds. The victory further established Moorer as a formidable champion in the light heavyweight division following his capture of the vacant title against Ramzi Hassan in December 1988.

Victor Claudio, hailing from Santurce, Puerto Rico, brought a diverse and experienced background into the fight. Turning professional in 1984, Claudio had accumulated a series of victories, including a notable win against the then-unbeaten Charles Boston (11-0). 

He had faced off against high-calibre opponents such as Ron Esset, Davey Moore, and the legendary Roberto Duran. Despite these credentials, Claudio faced a daunting challenge in Moorer, a rising star in the boxing world.
