Kid Chocolate vs Frankie Klick, Monday, December 25, 1933

The fight

On December 25, 1933, at Philadelphia's Arena, Kid Chocolate defended his World Super Featherweight Title against Frankie Klick. The bout, promoted by Maurice Fishman and Rudolph Fried, was officiated by referee Spud Murphy.

Throughout the match, Klick demonstrated resilience, showing little respect for Chocolate's punches and maintaining the advantage in all but the second and sixth rounds. Near the end of the seventh round, during close-quarters combat, Klick landed a short right to Chocolate's jaw, sending him to the canvas. Chocolate fell with his legs lifting above his torso upon impact. He rose at the count of six, appearing wobbly and swaying into the ropes. With only two seconds remaining in the round, referee Murphy halted the bout, awarding Klick a technical knockout victory.

The stoppage was immediately contested by Chocolate's handler, Moe Fleischer, who entered the ring claiming to have heard the bell ending the seventh round, which would have saved Chocolate. Amid the confusion, Klick's handler, Ray Carlin, called for Chocolate's disqualification due to his corner entering the ring. Referee Murphy informed the officials of his decision as he left the ring, leaving the announcer to inform the audience of Klick's victory by stoppage.

This victory crowned Frankie Klick as the new World Super Featherweight Champion, marking a significant milestone in his boxing career.
