Ike Williams vs Enrique Bolanos

On April 30, 1946, the historic Wrigley Field in Los Angeles set the stage for a pivotal lightweight championship bout between Ike Williams and Enrique Bolanos. Williams, the National Boxing Association world lightweight titleholder, entered the ring with a record of 74-9-4, while challenger Bolanos boasted 37 wins, 6 losses, and 2 draws.

The fight was a brutal showcase of Williams' unyielding dominance. Bolanos, known as "The Durango Dropper" for his Mexican roots and punching power, repeatedly found himself on the canvas. Williams scored knockdowns in the third, fourth, fifth, and eighth rounds, systematically breaking down his opponent.

Despite Bolanos' reputation as a tough competitor, evidenced by his career total of 79 victories, he was unable to withstand Williams' onslaught. The end came at 2:32 of the 8th round when referee Benny Whitman halted the contest, awarding Williams a TKO victory.

This fight marked the first of three encounters between the two fighters, all with world lightweight gold at stake. Williams would go on to defeat Bolanos twice more - via split decision in 1948 and another TKO in 1949.

The bout was officiated by referee Whitman and judges Charley Randolph and Billy Kershner under the promotion of Cal Eaton. It served as Williams' first title defence, setting the stage for his continued dominance in the lightweight division during the late 1940s.
