Why the House picks Dimitry Bivol
Callum Smith faces one of the finest technical boxers in the business. Dmitry Bivol doesn't waste punches, doesn't lose his shape and rarely gives an opponent the same opening twice. His footwork, balance and ability to control distance are exceptional. I've always admired fighters who make difficult work look simple, and Bivol does exactly that.
Smith is no mug, though. He's tall, punches hard and showed against Joshua Buatsi that he's got plenty of fight left in him. His left hook is dangerous, particularly when an opponent steps into range. But I worry about his tendency to stand too upright and follow opponents rather than cut off the ring. Against someone with Bivol's movement, that's asking for trouble.
Smith needs to establish his jab, attack the body and make Bivol uncomfortable. The trouble is, Bivol's quicker feet and sharper combinations will make that difficult. I can see Smith having his moments, but I expect Bivol to control the tempo, dictate the exchanges, and gradually pull away.
I'm taking Bivol by a clear unanimous decision over twelve rounds.
