Age on fight night unknownWhy the House picks Bryan Acosta
This is an interesting all-Mexican scrap between two fighters with something to prove. Bryan Acosta has been in with better opposition, and that might make the difference here. His victory over Ronny Rios showed he can stick to a disciplined game plan and win rounds without relying on punching power. He's an orthodox boxer who does his best work when he establishes the jab and keeps his punches straight.
Carlos Arteaga Orona is the younger man and brings a respectable knockout record, but there's a difference between stopping modest opposition and doing it against someone with Acosta's experience. Orona needs to close the distance, work the body and make Acosta fight at a pace he doesn't particularly like. If he allows Acosta time to set his feet and pick his shots, he'll find himself chasing the fight.
I reckon Orona will make it competitive, particularly early on, but Acosta's greater experience and more measured approach should eventually tell. He knows how to win rounds, and I expect him to exploit Orona's relative lack of experience against established opposition.
I'm taking Bryan Acosta to win a unanimous decision after ten rounds.
