On April 1, 2000, at the Estrel Convention Center in Neukoelln, Berlin, Germany, Chris Byrd faced Vitali Klitschko for the World Boxing Organization (WBO) Heavyweight Title. Byrd, weighing in at 211 lbs, took the fight on ten days' notice, stepping in for Donovan "Razor" Ruddock, who had to withdraw due to a hepatitis infection. Klitschko, the defending champion at 244 lbs, was making his third defence of the title.
