Vergil Ortiz vs Antonio Orozco

Unbeaten 21-year-old welterweight Vergil Ortiz continued his knockout streak when he stopped former world title challenger Antonio Orozco in the 6th round of their scheduled 12 round bout at the Verizon Theatre in Grand Prairie, Texas. Orozco was floored three times before the fight was halted by referee Mark Calo-oy.

Ortiz moves to 14-0, all by stoppage, and moves closer to an eventual world title challenge. Orozco had taken WBC Super-lightweight champion Jose Ramirez the full 12 rounds when challenging for the title in September 2018.

Jason Sosa vs Haskell Lydell Rhodes

Former WBA Super-featherweight champion Jason Sosa continued his comeback from back-to-back defeats at the hands of Vasiliy Lomachenko and Yuriorkis Gamboa when he stopped Lydell Rhodes (27-4-1) in 7 rounds at the Liacouras Center in Philadelphia.

Sosa dropped Rhodes twice in the 5th round and closed the show in the 7th when he floored his opponent for the 3rd time, prompting his corner to throw the towel in. The win is Sosa’s third since dropping a highly questionable decision to former 3-weight world champion Gamboa in November 2017.

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr vs Evert Bravo

Chavez Jr is back! Landing what he felt was the perfect left hook to the body to stop Columbian Evert Bravo in the 1st round. A good crowd of around six thousand came out to see the return of the prodigal son and weren’t disappointed by Chavez Jr’s ruthless display, his first outing in over 2 years.

Let’s hope that the 33-year-old Chavez Jr fights more often and gets back to world title level.

Robeisy Ramirez vs Adan Gonzalez

Top Rank signed Cuba’s two-time Olympic gold medallist Ramirez recently and had high hopes for the man who beat high flying featherweight contender Shakur Stevenson in the Rio Olympics bantamweight final of 2016. It all went terribly wrong tonight when Ramirez was dropped in the 1st round and went on to lose by split decision to Denver, Colorado’s Adan Gonzalez (4-2-2) on the Sosa vs Haskell Lydell Rhodes undercard in Philadelphia.

Good fighters have lost early in their careers and come back to reach the top before. Hopefully, Ramirez will learn from the experience and reach the heights predicted for him.
