Biography

Francois Botha, known as "The White Buffalo," is a South African former professional boxer and kickboxer who competed from 1990 to 2014. Botha gained notoriety in the boxing world for winning the IBF heavyweight title in 1995 against Axel Schulz, although a failed drug test for the steroid nandrolone later overshadowed the victory. Despite this setback, Botha continued to challenge for world heavyweight titles, stepping into the ring against renowned fighters such as Mike Tyson, Wladimir Klitschko, Lennox Lewis, Michael Moorer, and Evander Holyfield.

Significant highs and lows marked Botha's boxing career. After the controversy surrounding his IBF title win and subsequent stripping of the title, he made notable efforts to reclaim heavyweight glory. He faced Michael Moorer for the IBF crown and, despite a valiant effort, suffered a TKO in the twelfth round. His resilience saw him take on other heavyweight legends, though victories eluded him in title showdowns against Klitschko and Lewis, among others.

In addition to his professional boxing career, Botha ventured into kickboxing and mixed martial arts. Between 2003 and 2006, he competed in K-1, securing wins against kickboxing legends Jérôme Le Banner and Peter Aerts. Despite a challenging record in K-1 and a singular MMA fight, which he lost to Yoshihiro Akiyama, Botha's foray into these combat sports, he has demonstrated his versatility and willingness to test his skills across different fighting disciplines.

Botha showed remarkable determination throughout his boxing tenure, frequently engaging in comebacks and pursuing titles.
