Eric Lucas Biography
Eric Lucas, born on May 29, 1971, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, is a former professional boxer who competed in the super-middleweight division. Standing 6 feet tall with a reach of 74 inches, the orthodox fighter built a career marked by toughness, skill, and resilience. Over a nearly two-decades-long professional career, Lucas established himself as one of Canadaβs premier boxers.
Lucas made his professional debut on December 17, 1991, beginning a journey that would see him claim multiple championships and face some of the best fighters of his era. Known for his technical ability and durability, Lucasβ fighting style allowed him to thrive against elite competition.
Lucas remained unbeaten until August 1995, when he suffered his first professional loss to Brian Brannan in a bout for the NABF Super Middleweight Title. Following this setback, Lucas challenged Fabrice Tiozzo for the WBC World Light Heavyweight Title in Paris, where he lost by unanimous decision. Shortly after, he faced Roy Jones Jr. on June 15, 1996, in Jacksonville, Florida, losing by TKO in the 11th round in a spirited effort.
Determined to rebuild his career, Lucas moved up to the light heavyweight division and won the Canadian Light Heavyweight Title against Daryl Flint. Returning to the super middleweight division, he captured the WBC International Super Middleweight Title by defeating Segundo Mercado in April 1998. Later that year, in November, Lucas defended the title successfully against Juan Carlos Villoria with a unanimous decision victory.
In December 1999, Lucas was eliminated from contention for the WBC Super Middleweight Title when he faced Glenn Catley in Montreal. Despite a strong effort, Lucas lost by a 12th-round stoppage. However, Lucas earned a rematch with Catley in July 2001, with the vacant WBC World Super Middleweight Title on the line. Lucas avenged his earlier loss, winning by a seventh-round KO to claim the prestigious title.
Lucas defended his WBC title multiple times. In Montreal, he defeated Dingan Thabela by an eighth-round TKO and later faced Vinny Pazienza at the Foxwoods Resort, securing a unanimous decision win. Lucas defended the title again in Montreal against Omar Sheikha, winning another unanimous decision. However, by split decision, Lucas lost the title to German boxer Markus Beyer in Leipzig.
In his next major bout, Lucas faced Australian Danny Green for the WBC Interim World Super Middleweight Title but suffered a sixth-round TKO loss. Continuing his career, Lucas faced Mikkel Kessler, where he was stopped by TKO, and concluded his career with a loss to Librado Andrade in Quebec City. After the Andrade fight, Lucas retired, ending a long and memorable career.
