Daniel Attah

Daniel "The Prophet" Attah emerged from Calabar, Nigeria, as a skilled southpaw who would make his mark in boxing's super featherweight division during the early 2000s. Standing 5'7" with a 67-inch reach, Attah's journey in boxing began with notable amateur credentials, as he represented Nigeria at the 1996 Olympic Games in the featherweight division.

His professional career reached its first significant milestone in Buenos Aires on April 28, 2001, when he secured a WBO title eliminator against Ariel Alberto Nistal. Attah demonstrated his power in that contest by flooring Nistal in rounds 3, 4, and 9 before an accidental head clash forced the fight to the scorecards, where he emerged victorious via technical decision.

This victory earned Attah his shot at greatness against the undefeated Brazilian champion Acelino Freitas for the WBO Super Featherweight crown in Phoenix, Arizona. Despite his southpaw skills, Attah could not solve the Freitas puzzle, dropping a unanimous decision in his only world title challenge.

His final notable appearance came against Nate Campbell in an IBF Super Featherweight eliminator at Connecticut's Mohegan Sun Casino on January 9, 2004. The fight proved brutal for Attah, who suffered three knockdowns en route to a unanimous decision loss, effectively ending his aspirations at the elite level.

Making Washington, D.C., his home, Attah's career is a testament to the international nature of boxing, having carried Nigerian Olympic pride into the professional ranks before establishing roots in America's capital. While he never captured world honours, his status as a world title challenger and Olympic participant marks him as one of Nigeria's more accomplished boxing exports.
