Biography

Blake "Il Capo" Caparello's boxing career, spanning from 2009 to 2019, exemplifies an Australian fighter's journey navigating regional and international waters. Born August 30, 1985, in Moonee Ponds, Victoria, the 6'1" southpaw built his reputation by systematically conquering regional titles across multiple weight divisions.

Making his professional debut at 22 on August 16, 2009, Caparello quickly established himself in Australia's domestic scene. His strategic approach to the sport was evident as he captured the Victoria State Light Heavyweight Title in his third professional fight, and then methodically progressed through increasingly significant regional belts. His calculated rise to the top saw him collect the Interim OPBF, Australian, PABA, and IBO Light Heavyweight titles between 2011 and 2013.

Caparello's October 2013 unanimous decision victory over Allan Green for the IBO Light Heavyweight title was a pivotal moment in his career. It caught the attention of U.S. promoter DiBella Entertainment, leading to his highly anticipated American debut in January 2014. The excitement was palpable as he outpointed Elvir Muriqi over 10 rounds in New Jersey, marking his successful entry into the international boxing scene.

The undefeated Australian's world title opportunity came against WBO champion Sergey Kovalev on August 2, 2014. Despite scoring a first-round knockdown, Caparello succumbed to Kovalev's power in round two. This sole defeat in his prime years led to successful reinvention, as he captured titles at super middleweight, including the PABA and WBO Oriental belts.

Returning to light heavyweight, Caparello secured and defended the WBA Oceania title in 2017 with TKO victories over Jordan Tai and Fabiano Pena. His 2018 attempt at the world level against Isaac Chilemba for the WBC title proved unsuccessful, but he rebounded by recapturing the WBA Oceania title against Reagan Dessaix in 2019. His career demonstrates the complex relationship between regional success and world championship aspirations in modern boxing.
