Katie Taylor vs Christina Linardatou preview, prediction, and odds

Undisputed and unified female world lightweight champion Katie Taylor attempts to become a two-weight world champion when she challenges Greece’s Christina Linardatou for her WBO female world super-lightweight title at the Manchester Arena on Saturday November 2nd. The show will be shown live on Sky Sports in the UK and on streaming service DAZN in the USA.

Taylor from Bray in Ireland will want to put on a commanding performance after her last fight against Belgium’s Delfine Persoon was seen by many as a fortunate win, to say the least. There are plans to stage a rematch which will be important for Taylor’s career. Persoon bossed the fight from the first bell to the last, and although Taylor was competitive throughout, the Belgian looked a close but sure winner by the end of the ten fast and entertaining rounds.

In Lindardatou (12-1-0, 6 Ko’s) she meets another tough proposition and coincidentally a fighter whose only loss was to Persoon with the WBC lightweight title that Taylor now possesses on the line. The difference between the two fights is that Linardatou lost by wide margins on all three judges’ scorecards whereas Taylor had two judges’ scores in her favour by 96-94 with the other scoring it even 95-95.

Belgium’s WBC female lightweight champion Define Persoon loses her title to Katie Taylor on the Joshua Ruiz Jr bill last June.

Taylor has faced better opposition through her 3 year career but Lindardatou who was born in the Dominican Republic is on a run of 3 title wins against unbeaten opposition so will come into this contest full of confidence. Fighting in the UK will not be new to her as she won a 10 round points decision over Leeds’s Sam ‘SJ’ Smith at the Aria Suite in Leeds in November 2015, scoring a 1st round knockdown along the way. But in Taylor she meets one of the world’s elite female boxers and will struggle with Katie’s pace much as she did against Persoon.

Prediction: Taylor to force a stoppage after 6 rounds.
