Juan Francisco Estrada Wins Rungvisai Rematch

Former Flyweight champion Juan francisco Estrada added the WBC Super-flyweight title to his collection with a great win over Srisaket Sor Rungvisai.

If these two warriors met 10 times they would always serve up a great battle as they did tonight and the pre-fight betting would be close.

The 29 year old Estrada felt that he had done enough in the first meeting to win the decision but was criticized for starting too slowly and allowing the Thai champion to win many of the early rounds. Not tonight. Estrada got into his stride in the early going and boxed cleverly, countering the champions more powerful punches.

Rungvisai switched to an orthodox stance in the hope of confusing Estrada’s game plan but only helped the Mexican who found him easier to hit with stinging counters.

The 32-year-old Rungvisai had good spells in the fight, landing the heavier single blows but Estrada seemed to have the answers tonight even though the fight was tight on the judges’ scorecards at 115-113, 115-113, 116-112.

The win not only gives Estrada revenge but also a world title in a second weight class having previously held the WBO Flyweight title which he defended successfully on five occasions.

When asked about a rematch, Estrada said that he would be happy to fight Rungvisai again but would like to unify the titles at Super-flyweight first.
