Hughie Fury Back with a 2nd Round Knockout Win Over Canadian Chris Norrad

Hughie Fury did what was expected of him in stopping Canadian Chris Norrad in 2 rounds at the Victoria Wharehouse in Manchester.

Former heavyweight title contender Hughie Fury did exactly what was expected of him in stopping Canadian import Chris Norrad in 2 rounds at the Victoria Warehouse in Manchester in a comeback bout following a loss to Bulgarian Kubrat Pulev in a IBF final eliminator in Sofia back in October last year.

There was nothing on show from Fury that we hadn’t seen before because Norrad should never have been in there in the first place. A 17 fight unbeaten record built against Canadian Lumberjacks gave Norrad no chance against the younger cousin of Lineal heavyweight champion Tyson Fury.

Hughie and his father Peter put a positive spin on the performance but the gulf in class didn’t allow us to see the improvements they spoke about. Strength conditioner Kerry Kays is now a part of the team and although the 24-year-old Fury looked in good shape it was difficult to say if he had better strength or power than in previous outings.

The point of the exercise was to give the young Fury a smooth way back to boxing in front of a TV audience and build him back into a viable world title contender. Job done, now move on to a decent test next time.

On the undercard Alex Dilmaghani of Crayford in Kent, England scored an 8th round Tko of Martin Parlagi (25-3-1) of the Czech Republic. Dilmaghani has an unusual story as a professional boxer. After 7 wins and 1 loss, Dilmaghani decided to relocate to Mexico and immerse himself if the tough Mexican gym culture. Taking part in bouts in Mexico and Canada, the 27-year-old now has a 19-1-0 8 Ko’s record. He was born in the stock-broker belt of Redhill in Surrey and holds a Law degree. Not your normal rags to riches boxing background.

You can see right away that the Mexican code has been grooved into his boxing style, he has a tight defence and puts constant pressure on his opponent. He impressed with the manner of this win but a lack of power may see him fail to reach European or world class, only time will tell.
