Puerto Rico's WBC world super-bantamweight champion Wilfredo Gomez made the eleventh defence of his title at Caesars Palace, Las Vegas against Columbian challenger Ruben Valdez.
Gomez thoroughly dominated his challenger from start to finish and had him hurt in every round. It appeared that Gomez was putting on a show for the Caesers Palace crowd and could have finished the fight at any time.
In the 6th round, Gomez hit the Columbian with every punch in the book and although Valdez refused to go down he took a frightful beating. Thankfully his corner decided they didn't want their man to take any further punishment and signalled to referee Ferd Hernandez that they were pulling him out.
Gomez had now stopped every one of his eleven title challengers and would go on to halt his next eight, punctuated by a move up to featherweight which ended in a knockout loss to Salvador Sanchez.
