Future three-weight world champion Tony Canzoneri won his first world crown (Featherweight) from Benny Bass at Madison Square Garden on the 10th February 1928.
Bass, from Philadelphia via Ukraine would hold two world titles during his career. He became World Junior-lightweight champion in December 1929.
Considering that Bass sustained a broken collarbone in the third round he did exceptionally well to take Canzoneri to a split decision.
Canzoneri would go on to hold world titles at Featherweight, Lightweight, and Light-welterweight.
