Tomas Rojas travelled from his hometown, Veracruz, Mexico to the Prefectural Gymnasium in Osaka, Japan to defend his WBC world super-flyweight title for the first time. He made much the same trip five months earlier when he won the vacant title against Kohei Kono in Saitama by a unanimous decision.
Nashiro was a former two-time WBA world super-flyweight champion, winning the title first time round from Martin Castillo and for the second time from Kohei Kono.
Rojas used his superior boxing skills to stay on the outside and outbox Nashiro, enabling him to gain a unanimous points decision from the ringside judges.
Scores: Jae Bong Kim 116-113 | Ed Kugler 116-111 | Hubert Minn 114-113.
