After winning the WBC world flyweight championship from Mexico's Gabriel Bernal in October 1984, Chatalada made six defences before losing the title to South Korea's Yong Kang Kim in September 1988.
After three non-title fights, Chitalada regained the title from Kim in June 1989. After four more successful defences, Chitalada faced fellow countryman Muangchai Kittikasem in Ayutthaya.
Kittikasem became the first man to stop Chitalada and in the process become world champion.
The pair would meet in a rematch one year later with Kittikasem repeating the stoppage win, this time in the 9th round.
Sot Chitalada never fought again.
