Japan's Shozo Saijyo won the WBA World Featherweight Title from American Raul Rojas in September 1968. He defended the title successfully against California based Mexican and old rival, Jose Luis Pimentel, a year later and then against Chile's Godfrey Stevens in his second defence.

Saijyo retained his title by way of a unanimous points decision.
