Koichi Wajima made the sixth defence of the unified WBC and WBA world super-welterweight titles he won from Italian Carmel Bossi in October 1971 when he faced Brazil's Miguel DeOlivrira at the Metropolitan Gym in Tokyo, Japan on 5th February 1974. The pair had met at the same venue 13 months earlier for Wajima's titles and battled to a majority decision draw.
The Japanese world titleholder had made a further two world title defences since their first bout, winning a majority decision over fellow countryman Ryu Sorimachi and a 12th round retirement victory over Italian Silvano Bertini.
Once again, the fight was razor-tight and the local man came away with a majority decision over the 15 round championship distance.
Scores: Seiji Ebine 73-73 | Takeaki Kanaya 74-71 | Akimitsu Sasaki 73-70.
