Britton and Lewis contended if not the longest-running rivalry in boxing history then the one with the most bouts involved. On twenty occasions these two faced one another.
Their first fight was in August 1915 when Lewis won the world welterweight title from Britton in Boston Their last meeting was in February 1921 when he lost while challenging Britton for the last time at Madison Square Garden, New York.
Britton, known as the "Boxing Marvel" won by unanimous decision over 15 rounds.
