Battle-hardened Cristobal Cruz made the first defence of the IBF World Featherweight Title he won in a vacant title match against Orlando Salido four months earlier, against Frenchman Cyril Thomas at the Palais des Sports in Saint-Quentin, Aisne, France.
Cruz had faced some of the toughest opposition available in the featherweight division on his way up, rarely taking fights on equal terms, so travelling to France, his first venture outside Mexico and America, did not come as a surprise to the champion.
Cruz managed to win a unanimous decision to retain his crown.
