Dillian Whyte vs Mariusz Wach preview, prediction, and odds

Dillian Whyte had to get off the floor to outpoint the classy Oscar Rivas in July 2019.

After much uncertainty regarding his future boxing career, Dillian Whyte resumes his march towards a world title shot with a match against Poland’s former world title challenger Mariusz Wach on the huge Ruiz Jr vs Joshua bill in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia on December 7th. The fight will be part of the pay-per-view show on Sky Sports and streamed on DAZN USA.

This is a matchup that was made back in 2017 but fell through when Whyte pulled out through injury. Since then Wach has lost to Jarrell Miller, Artur Szpilka, and Martin Bakolie so we would probably have seen a more competitive version of Wach than we are likely to see now.

Wach (35-5-0, 19 Ko’s) is now 39-years-old and not the same fighter that outpointed former EBU champion Erkan Teper in 2017 and knocked out Christian hammer way back in 2010 but at around 240-250lbs and standing just over 6’ 7” tall he has experience and may be able to give Whyte the workout he needs.

Mariusz Wach outpoints Erkan Teper in Leipzig, Germany in March 2017.

In November 2012 Wach challenged Wladimir Klitschko for his unified world titles in Altona, Germany, the bout ending in a wide decision victory for the champion, 3 years later the big Pole travelled to Russia to take on Alexander Povetkin for the WBC silver heavyweight title but was stopped in the 10th round on an injury.

Wach has had two low key wins since being stopped on his feet by the talented Airdrie based Congolese contender Martin Bakolie in April. Bakolie was intended as a way back for Wach into the big money heavyweight mix but the African had too much speed, stamina and ring smarts for Wach, grinding him down and battering him on the ropes until the referee stopped the fight in the 8th round. Losing to Bakolie is no disgrace, the big African could beat most of the top contenders around at present but it shows that Wach no longer has a place at the heavyweight top table.

Prediction: Whyte to stop Wach after the halfway stage.
