Devin Haney Wins WBC Interim Lightweight Title

Lightweight superstar in the making Devin ‘The Dream’ Haney swept aside Russian Zaur Abdullaev to win the WBC Interim world title and rack up his 22nd straight win in as many professional outings as he forced Abdullaev to quit after 4 rounds. The ringside doctor appeared to be looking to see if Abdullaev had suffered an orbital bone injury like to one’s Kell Brook suffered against Gennady Golovkin and Errol Spence Jr.

Abullaev showed no respect for the talented American’s reputation as he stayed in front of Haney and took his best shots in the first three rounds, even though Haney made him miss with nearly everything the Russian attempted to land. In the fourth, however, Haney’s jab started to break down Abdullaev’s resistance and he became increasingly frustrated by not being able to land any telling punches of his own and his corner pulled him out of the fight.

Haney’s defence was a work of art tonight and it has to be said it was reminisent of a prime Floyd Mayweather.
