Carl Frampton Forced To Pull Out Of Dominguez Fight Due To Injury

Carl Frampton vs Emmanuel Dominguez

Belfast Featherweight Carl Frampton, the former Super-bantamweight and Featherweight world champion has pulled out of his scheduled bout on Saturday 10th August due to a freak accident at his Philadelphia hotel. A video was posted on social media which explains how the accident occurred and shows the injured hand.

This a setback for the 32-year-old Frampton who probably feels he needs to get back to winning fights as soon as possible to get a chance to win another Featherweight title.

Frampton’s tweet explains that an ornament in the lobby of his hotel fell and fractured the 5th metacarpal bone in his left hand, an injury that will likely keep him out of the ring for 3-4 months.

“Today a freak accident occurred and I won’t be able to take part in my fight vs Emanuel Dominguez. A large ornament, in the hotel lobby, was knocked over accidentally and hit me on the left hand, fracturing the 5th metacarpal.”

“I’m extremely disappointed for the traveling support and for myself and my team. I’ve put everything into this camp, I’ve been away from my amazing wife and kids for most of it and it all feels like a waste.”

“Although it was out of control I’d like to apologise to Emanuel, MTK Global, Top Rank, my team, my travelling support and my wife and kids for being away so long.”

“I’m absolutely devastated.

Frampton has to be considered as one of Ireland’s best ever boxers and it would do wonders for Irish boxing if he can get back to world champion status in time for a fight with fellow Belfast Featherweight Michael Conlan. If the stars align and the two met for a world title in Belfast it would be the biggest boxing event ever staged there.
