Reasoning

This one’s got me interested, because Ruiz and Fuchs already know each other very well. Fuchs nicked their first fight on a split decision in 2024, and did it while fighting through a horrible thumb injury, so nobody can call her soft. But this rematch is for Ruiz’s WBC world super-flyweight title on July 18 in San Bernardino, and that changes the temperature. Ruiz is not just turning up for business. She’ll want her pound of flesh.

Ruiz, “La Cobra”, is the more seasoned professional: 18-1-1, orthodox, compact, strong, and she carries a bit more spite than people give her credit for. She is 5ft 4in, the same listed height as Fuchs, but she fights more like the pressure woman, looking to make you work every second. Fuchs is also 5ft 4in, a southpaw, unbeaten at 4-0, and has that Olympic schooling, tidy feet, busy hands, good rhythm. But she has been out since that Ruiz win, and ring rust could be a factor.

Ruiz has to get her front foot outside, jab to the chest, and make Fuchs reset before the American gets into that busy southpaw flow. Fuchs’ edge is timing; she can pinch rounds with changes of angle, straight lefts, and, most importantly, the southpaw jab. But if Ruiz makes it a fight of pace and body work, Fuchs may find the second half a proper slog.

I’m going with Ruiz on this one. Close early, messy late, but Ruiz’s engine and pressure get it done. Two years out with the thumb injury is the deciding factor for me.

Adelaida Ruiz to win by unanimous or split decision after 10 rounds.
