While rival super-featherweight champion Gervonta "Tank" Davis defends his WBA title against Panamanian challenger Ricardo Nunez in Baltimore, Maryland, IBF champion Tevin Farmer makes the 4th defence of his belt against 35-year-old Frenchman Guillaume Frenois on the undercard to the Super-lightweight unification bout between WBC champion Jose Ramirez and WBO champion Maurice Hooker at the College Park Center, in Arlington, Texas.

Farmer has been a busy champion since winning the title in Australia against recent Amir Khan opponent Billy Dibb in August 2018. Two months later he defended against Irishman James Tennyson in Boston, scoring an impressive 5th round Tko. Another defence just two months later, saw Farmer score a wide points win over Nicaraguan Francisco Fonseca at Madison Square Garden. Fast forward three months and Farmer finally got to make a defence of his title in hometown Philadelphia, this time against Irishman Jono Carroll, again, winning a wide points decision.

Frenois received this chance after his split decision draw in an eliminator against Jono Carroll at the Sheffield Arena, England in December 2018. Many fans thought that Frenois did enough to edge Carroll on the scorecards in an exciting fight. The Frenchman showing plenty of heart and great stamina throughout.

Frenois (46-1-0) is a two time European Super-featherweight champion having won the title for the first time in 2011 against Italian Fabrizio Trotta, then successfully defending it against fellow countryman Anthony Arimany in March 2013. In September 2013 Frenois travelled to Ponta di Brenta in Italy to defend the title against Devis Boschero, the Italian winning by unanimous decision.

After 10 unbeaten non-title fights Frenois found himself challenging for the vacant EBU title for the second time against Samir Ziani in Paris. Frenois won by a unanimous decision. Two more successful defences against Russian Vyacheslav Gusev and Spaniard Ruddy Encarnacion followed.

Frenois is an experienced and tough competitor, he will not travel to Texas and be beaten without putting in a huge effort on his part. In the Jono Carroll fight, he very often got the better of the relentless Irishman's slugging style, standing centre ring and refusing to allow Carroll to throw the last punch in their exchanges.

Farmer is a talented boxer, he doesn't possess the heavy-handed power the Gervonta Davis does but he is a slick defensive boxer and at times a joy to watch. There is a level between the Jono Carroll and Guillaume Frenois's of this world and Farmer, and while I think the Frenchman will hear the final bell, I cannot see him winning.

Prediction: Farmer wins by a wide points decision.
